About the Program

Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing prepares graduates of the nursing program to function as entry level nurse generalist and change agents in the delivery of a broad spectrum of health services required by society. Baccalaureate education also provides the foundational skills and knowledge required for graduate nursing education. The educational experiences are designed to assist students to develop an understanding of the nursing role in today’s complex health care environment.

McMurry University and Hendrick Health have joined together to tackle the nursing shortage. By committing to four years of service with Hendrick after graduation, McMurry nursing students can access up to $28,000 in financial support over two years, which can be combined with other aid to graduate without little or no debt. Envision yourself starting at McMurry and then embarking on a fulfilling career with a top-notch healthcare system, all with your education fully funded.

Pre-nursing students will complete their general education core at McMurry University, then apply to PHSSN for their final two years of their nursing education. Transfer students can apply to McMurry University, and then PHSSN.

Areas of Study

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

PHSSN’s state approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program prepares students to assist patients and nurses with daily living needs.

Entry into the CNA program does not require enrollment to McMurry University.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Our BSN program is nationally accredited and provides a rich foundation in patient-centered care. With a BSN, you are eligible to earn licensure as a Registered Nurse. BSN-prepared nurses qualify for entry-level positions in patient care that can lead to leadership roles in nursing. The degree also gives you the foundation to pursue specialty certification or graduate-level nursing degrees.

Completion of pre-requisite courses is required before entry into the BSN program.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) (Online)

This degree plan is ONLY for those currently licensed to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) and are seeking to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Students who are not licensed as an RN should refer to the BSN degree plan chart in the catalog.

A MINOR IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN NURSING

All degrees require a minimum of 120 credit hours, excluding developmental courses. A minimum of 39 credit hours must be advanced level.
