2022 Season

Color Guard Audition Clinic:

The McMurry Guard Captain and Instructor will hold an Audition Clinic on Saturday, April 9, 2022 on McMurry’s campus. This clinic is not mandatory, but attendance is strongly encouraged.

  • Flag Fundamentals (9-11 AM)
  • Marching Fundamentals and Rifle (Advanced) (1-3 PM)

All candidates must be accepted to McMurry prior to the audition. If a candidate has not applied, they should do so immediately. Note that candidates' admission to McMurry University will be verified prior to the audition. All candidates should be aware that band camp (August) is mandatory should a candidate be chosen as part of the 2022-2023 Color Guard.

Auditions will be held April 30, 2022 on McMurry campus. Results will be posted within 24 hours of the actual auditions.

The 2022 Color Guard Auditions will be held at the following time:

  • Saturday, April 30, 2022
    • 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
      Check-in begins at 8:30 AM

***Auditions are closed to the public.***

The auditions will be organized and scored in the following sections:

  • Basic Skills and Travel Technique
    • Demonstrated in small groups (see “Basics and Travel” below)
  • Group Routines
    • Candidates will be taught a brief routine at the audition, which will be performed in small groups. Candidates will be judged on their ability to learn choreography quickly, ability to memorize/retain, overall ability to perform in a group, technique and execution, and overall performance and showmanship.

Basics and Travel:
Basic technique and travel fundamentals will be demonstrated in brief combinations taught during the audition. Candidates will be judged on overall skill proficiency, execution, and body placement/control.

For the Clinic and Auditions, candidates should wear appropriate, comfortable clothing and suitable footwear (e.g. jazz shoes, dance sneakers, tennis shoes).

Please bring your own flag pole and rifle if you are able. We have some we can provide but may not have enough for everyone.
