Psi Chi was founded in 1929 with the purpose of “encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology.” Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. Psi Chi chapters are located at over 1,000 colleges and universities in the U.S., and there are currently over 325,000 members. Having a chapter of Psi Chi at McMurry showcases McMurry’s best psychology students and allows students to receive a visible reward for their dedicated academic efforts.
To be eligible for membership in Psi Chi, you must meet the following requirements:
Students become life members of Psi Chi upon acceptance by the National Council and payment of a one-time $35 membership fee. The new members are recognized at an induction ceremony and receive a certificate suitable for framing, a membership card, a club newsletter Eye on Psi Chi, and the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research. McMurry also recognizes members by encouraging them to wear a Psi Chi honor cord at commencement. Membership in Psi Chi is considered an honor, so there will be no additional attendance or service requirement.
