Master of Science in Nursing Admission Requirements

Acceptance into the graduate program at McMurry University is required in order to study the Master of Science in Nursing degree at the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing.

Our programs include:

Hybrid MSN – Education

  • Mixture of online and face-to-face courses
  • Flexible for working nurses
  • Only two courses a semester

Hybrid MSN – Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program

  • Mixture of online and face-to-face courses
  • Small class sizes
  • Personalized Preceptor placement

Post-Masters Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner

  • Face-to-Face format
  • Personalized Preceptor placement
  • Only 6 courses to complete

Admission Criteria:

  • A Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from a regionally accredited school or university whose nursing program is NLN or CCNE accredited.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical nursing practice.
  • Undergraduate cumulative GPA must be a minimum of a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • Undergraduate nursing coursework must be a minimum of a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.

Provisional Admission

Provisional admission to graduate study in nursing requires meeting one of the two GPA academic standards listed above and obtaining departmental endorsement. Students granted provisional admission must maintain a 3.00 GPA during their first nine hours of graduate study.

Submission of application materials is encouraged by June 30th for fall applicants and October 30th for spring applicants.
