Computer Science Students

The department and Business sponsors the McMurry AITP Student Chapter. The department provides a faculty advisor and helps students secure funding support through McMurry resources. Each school year, the student chapter tries to attend both regional and national conferences which provide opportunities for team competitions in programming, network design, database design, Web site design, and other activities. The department also encourages student attendance at the regional CCSC (ACM SIGCSE) conference which provides programming competitions. The conferences also provide job fairs that enable students to develop a network of contacts for internships and employment after graduation. The student chapter also looks for opportunities to provide community service.

McMurry Student Chapter Programming Challenges

Students may participate in local contests to solve programming problems, either individually or as a team of 2 programmers. The Faculty Sponsor provides separate problem statements for freshmen/sophomores and juniors/seniors and decides whether it is an individual or team problem. Students have about a hour to provide a solution which is judged based on correctness of solution and then on programming techniques and style. Winners receive a certificate suitable for framing and other prizes from community supporters.
