A Message From the Dean

Dean Paul MasonWelcome to the Walter F. and Virginia Johnson School of Business at McMurry University. Because of the generosity of numerous supporters of McMurry, and also the substantial numbers of donors wishing to recognize Mr. and Mrs. Johnson’s contributions to First Financial Bank and the Abilene community, the new Johnson School of Business has the resources to refocus its mission, expand and improve its offerings to students of the Big Country and beyond. One new vision for the Johnson School of Business reflects increased emphasis on internationalizing the curriculum. This focus includes enhancing study abroad opportunities for students and faculty, increased emphasis on the global nature of modern business entities, and increased representation of international faculty and students on campus. In addition, we plan to refocus efforts regarding entrepreneurship, enhance faculty development, create speaker series to provide market climate exposure to our faculty and students, provide endowments for outstanding current and new faculty to motivate even greater productivity, and expand the role that the Johnson School of Business faculty, staff and students will play in the West Texas region and beyond.

Building on over ninety-three years of history reflecting outstanding educational service in the Methodist tradition, the Johnson School of Business is poised to leap forward in the quality of its academic and developmental offerings. We seek to cater to a diverse student body of both traditional college-aged students and non-traditional students, the latter through the new McMurry Online Degrees Program for those 24 and older. While in recent years some have questioned the short-term value of a college education subsequent to the Great Recession, the reality is that the increasingly technological focus of modern business organizations demands enhanced analytical and communications skills. Such expertise has always derived from quality business training within a liberal arts framework like we offer at McMurry. I invite you to investigate our offerings further and contact our office to learn more about how a degree from the Johnson School of Business can be your ticket to a brighter future for you and your family, and indirectly thereafter, motivation for future generations of your family who will learn from your lead to enhance their knowledge base and skills.
