In addition to earning honors credit for Freshman Seminar, students will also complete twelve additional hours of honors work before the senior year and write a senior thesis. In order to continue in the program and retain an honors scholarship, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA for their honors work and a 3.5 GPA for all McMurry course work. The program sponsors a variety of extracurricular activities for honors students, including off-campus field trips, opportunities to meet with visiting lecturers, and informal discussions on topics of interest. The program also provides funding for honors students to attend meetings of academic societies.
